30A TOUR EAST TO WEST: ALYS BEACH

There’s a gorgeous sameness about the beaches of the Emerald Coast—just one mile after another of soft quartz sand running alongside an aquamarine shoreline that appears aglow, lit from within. The communities that populate this realm, however, are a different matter altogether. All they have in common is their distinctiveness from one another. From east to west, we’ll be highlighting the eleven independent townships that together comprise what the world now recognizes as 30A.

ALYS BEACH

Designed by architects Marieanne and Erik Vogt, this Bermuda-inspired community on the east end of 30A is like no other.

As visitors cruise down the palm-lined section of 30A, they enter a distinctly simple and ethereal realm. The effect is dreamlike. While the white stucco remains a hallmark of the town, the award-winning Caliza Pool, a 100-foot zero-entry saltwater pool, is the centerpiece. Here you’ll find a magical open-air restaurant, bar, and pool club surrounded on all sides by all-white limestone construction forming the cabanas and loggias. A nature preserve lies tucked away to the north and the turquoise waters of the Gulf to the south.

As one of 30A’s most luxurious beach communities, no detail in the architecture goes unnoticed. Curved lines and distinct rooftop angles provide simplicity to set a relaxed, elegant tone matching the rolling tide of the emerald waters. Sculptural works of art appear throughout the neighborhood as an element of surprise to a passerby. As stated on their website, “Alys Beach is a study in geometry.” Contrasting negative space from the clean, white structures against a cerulean sky provides a blank canvas for the mind’s imagination. Though the simplified architecture is intentional, it doesn’t take away the community’s vibrance in Alys Beach.

Thousands of visitors come to attend the area’s two main annual events: Digital Graffiti Festival held in the spring and the Alys Beach 5K through the nature trails on Labor Day weekend. While the community itself is small, restaurants and bars such as George’s and Neat are some of the hottest spots for nightlife on 30A.

Wellness at Alys Beach is an important element to the town’s signature style. Zuma is an all-encompassing center for health and fitness. With premium fitness classes like TRX and yoga, an outdoor oasis, massages, steam rooms, Har-Tru tennis courts, and a swimming pool, guests can create a variety of sweat-induced endorphins. If you prefer outside recreation, natural beauty surrounds the trails for the ultimate running and bike paths.

Mind, body, and spirit are in harmony at Alys Beach.

Stay tuned for future additions of our community tour along 30A, where we’ll highlight a different community in feature articles.
